Published: 29 January 2010Sometimes the first impression is just a bad one. This happened to me when I was listening to the new CD of Sora for the first time. But after a few times the songs want to live their own life and stuck regularly in my head in a pleasant way. The second CD of Erol Sora has some similarities with the British music scene of the eighties. That’s where Erol Sora got his influences.
He started playing the guitar when he saw Kiss in the mid seventies and was inspired to write his own songs listening to guitarists like Ritchie Blackmore, Michael Schenker and John Sykes. So it isn’t a coincidence that his music sounds like the old good rocksongs of that time. His songs feel good, warm and trustful.
The first song Taste Of Rock And Roll has got the spirit of Whitesnake in it and The Storm Has Just Begun reminds me of Gary Moore playing in his better music days. I thought Erol isn’t a very good singer but in the ballad When You’re Gone I’m pleasantly surprised by his voice. He really can sing. After this song Sora rocks the ceiling off.
The second half of the CD is just much more heavier than the first without losing the melody in the songs. In the song Invitation Sora speeds up a bit. Stop Messing Around and Rock And Roll Dog finish it. The last song When You Gonna Love Me is just the icing on the cake. Soft, sweet and slow. Erol Sora is a guitarist in all his nerves.
The guitar however always got a prominent place in the songs but is never annoying or too much at the front. You should give Sora a second chance when you desire good music and that’s the truth.
