Published: 29 August 2009The young Finnish band comes pretty quick after his debut in 2008 with a following album, named Ego Anthem. Not waiting a while, but directly rolling over the listener is apparently his motto. The song Make Amends jumps out after a short fade in and melodic sounds by keyboard follow quickly. The known grunts alternated with clean vocals follow up soon. The grunts sound very mature and the clean voice young, but certainly not as a rooky.
Tight riffs have the upper tone and the speed is well up. After the powerful Make Amends they continue with Part Of The Wounded that sounds a lot like Children Of Bodom concerning the grunts. Alternating tempos and a lot of melodic parts with a sensitive solo, form together big parts of the song. With Scum the band shows a lot of thrash influences.
In Your Name is a softer song after those wild three. This is mainly because of the clean vocals that sound very bright. Also the variation in speed of the music plays a part. To finish the atmosphere is there the role of the keyboards.
Apparently was In Your Name to mild and the band throws in a lot of power again with Your Way Is Not For Me, that contains heavy sounds. The music characterizes itself by varied rhythms in the riffs that come extra to the foreground in this song. Dirt Track Speedball honors his name. The song starts very fast and the speed holds this. The guitar riffs and the grunts remind a lot of Children Of Bodom again. They are fast, secure and don’t yield. But still there is a calm part in this song as well, where the solo jumps out and raise the tempo again.
Repeating Mistakes follows no standard and fluent line of music when the verses are being sung. These are short and powerful and seem to give more pounding. Brain Attack is a true surprise on the album. The song is pretty accessible and could even be radio friendly. Still there are the characteristic melody lines of the band, but it doesn’t deter, although the grunts could sound not very inviting.
The Forsaken is the most progressive sounding song. When it comes to tempo it is a quite slower song, although there are some speed changes in it. Still it is a good finisher. Halfway the song the guitar takes in a very central role and with a powerful and catching melody the song is being finished.
Despite that Tracedawn is comparable with Children Of Bodom, doesn’t mean it is a copy. Tracedawn clearly shows were the influences are coming from, but thereby has his own sound that mainly comes from the keyboards and the guitar.
The vocals of course play a big part as well. The music has a lot of variation which makes it very pleasant to listen to the album. The guys have put down a good achievement and Ego Anthem leaves his predecessor behind in a shadow.
