The Eternal - Kartika

The third release of these boys coming from ‘down under’ is clearly one that has received a lot of attention.

The songs walk through a richfully coloured landscape The dark, slw songs with clear vocals look a bit like those of Anathema, the difference however is that The Eternal puts considerably more in their songs. Even the most quiet moments are filled with t(w)iddle bits, without it becoming kitsch.

This represents some danger though: you either love this or it can’t get a hold on you, resulting in you pausing every now and then. The latter is the case with me.

But on the other hand this album surprises me. It is filled from the start with well thought of, intelligent stories that give birth to slow, but pounding songs.

The tight drumriffs, the heavy guitars and the dark keyboard parts are a whole. Remains the question: are these songs good? The answer depends on whether it was all written with an honest emotion, and the band truly convinced me of this.

The honesty is of a high level. So, temper the lights at night, take a glass of wine, put on this CD, and I assure you, you’ll have a great time.
