Published: 19 November 2008Lethargy (not to be confused with the American technical death metal band) won't yet ring a bell for many people. Classic Rock Magazine calls it ‘maybe the next best Welsh band’. The foursome have been friends since childhood and they form the band while still at school.
In their biogrpahy their music is described as a mix of grunge and Manic Street Preacher-like angst. The comparision with the Manics (also from Wales) seems a bit off to me, although there might be a lyrical comparison. The atmosphere anyway is totally different.
Lethargy is a lot heavier and rocks more. Sometimes a bit of stoner rock passes by, which makes it all a bit more juicy. David Prater (known for his work with Dream Theater amongst others) has done a great job production-wise. The album rocks away, although the band can’t hold my attention for the length of the whole album. However, this is a great try for a first big release.
They’re not the best Welsh band yet (think for instance of Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets or Bullet For My Valentine), but this album is a step in the right direction.
