Genre: Thrash Metal

What do you get when you put great artists like Jed Simon (SYL / Zimmer’s Hole), Byron Stroud (SYL / Fear Factory), Glen Alvelais (Forbidden / Testament), Steve “Zetro” Souza (Legacy / Exodus) en Gene Hoglan (Death / Dark Angel / SYL) together? Answer: Extremely tight trash metal! Because that is what Tenet is, from beginning to end, pure trash goodness!

Originally the side project from Jed Simon would see the light much sooner, but due to very busy tour schedules nothing really happened expect for some occasional jam sessions. Till now that is, and what could possibly be better timing? Now trash metal is more back then ever (especially the old school style of trash)

Sovereign managed to put a good smile on my face when hearing the first few seconds. A smile that lasted during the whole disc. To be honest, I had to get used to the ACDC type of singing from singer Steve ”Zetro” Souza. But after one listening session that pure nostalgic feeling comes up, and the vocals truly are an integral part of the music.

It hardly bothered me afterwards. The album kicks off with the brutal track “Being And Nothingness”. And this song manages to give you that classic feeling you got from your good old friend trash metal. A lot of fast paced drumming, many and I mean many old school riffing, and of course what would trash metal be without an overkill of solos? Even the gamers among us might recognize a well known anthem on 2:07, In case you did not notice, this is the Halo theme!

After that everything continues with the track “Indulge Me”. Which clearly has the old school influence drenched all over, but manages to stay fresh and new at the same time. The pounding continues for about 3 tracks and afterwards the band surprises you with the lower tempo track “Going Down”. Which was a good timed track, since you have the risk of getting lost between all the great riffing and crazy solos!

I can only be positive regarding the production. That’s also because Vincent Wojno took the mixing duties upon him, and Andy Sneap did the mastering, both of those guys are well known for their work with other huge bands(Machine Head, Kreator, Opeth, Death just to name a few) But it’s safe to say you can expect an extremely tight and clear production!

What else could I possibly tell you next to: you’d better buy this disc! If you see yourself as a trash metal fan, it would be a sin not to have this record in your collection! Nostalgic yet modern enough! Delicious!
