The last few days I have got some songs stuck into my head. I realised that this were the songs of the latest CD of Kings Of Modesty. In the beginning I had to get used to the particular sound of this band, because it seems that the rhythm of the music and the rhythm of the vocals aren’t synchronic. But just this a-synchronicity gives the songs a real tension.
The CD starts with the song Never Touched The Rainbow, which was already a rock radio favourite in the UK. The songs Hourglass and Suicide Mission seems to have a theme that describes the depth in life and the consequences of it. This all in a quite heavy rhythm, but in a very recognisable melodic style. Besides the heavy stuff you also can find some more sensitive stuff.
In Staring Eyes and Once Upon A Time they slow down for a while. At the end however they turn on their amplifiers and rock on like hell with songs like Tailspin and Miracle. Overall you can say that this CD is just a great debut album with eleven songs that rocks. All written and produced by the band itself. When I have to put Kings Of Modesty in a genre, you could say that they’ve got influences from Queensrÿche, Dream Theatre and Kamelot. Heavy pounding drums, great guitars and nice keyboard parts.
Upon that the strong but thin voice of Jason Flinck. In Deep Down the intro of the song sounds a lot like the great song Fallen from Symphony X, but Kings Of Modesty has got his own identity. It’s just a very good newcomer in metal land, but that’s my modest opinion.
