Ion Dissonance

Cursed
Basic Records

Genre: Mathcore

After reading a quite unusual information sheet, the music is turned on. After reading that this was supposed to be deathmetal/hardcore, it comes as a shock that this is everything but those two genres. This is no bullshit mathcore.

But, it is about the music, not about the labeling of the music. Where there is mathcore, there is good chaotic mathcore, look at TDEP and Meshuggah. And there is just chaotic mathcore, look at Ion Dissonance. Lack of originality is the main problem here, the few good songs on the album disappear in the rest of the songs. The few riffs and basslines that make it kick, are forgotten because the following track is just the same.

After over half an hour I am still wondering whether I made it to the next song.. it appeared I’m over halfway, so that’s a good thing. ‘Cursed’ is an album that could have turned out amazingly, but went totally wrong. One song is a cool experience, but please keep it to one thing, unless you love hearin the same stuff for almost an hour.
