World’s End Fruit Basket
Self Released

Genre: Experimental Metal/ nu-metal

Ikd-sj is a Japanese band that is slowly gaining a solid fanbase overseas and in their own country. Even though they are unsigned they have managed to sell their records online and they have ended with one of their tracks on the soundtrack for the Siren Blood Curse game. World’s End Fruit Basket is their second full length album. They describe their sound as “H.A.G” and I’m curious to hear how the 17 songs on the record sound like.

The beginning gives the impression that the band is planning to start off a bit softly, but this is absolutely not the case. The intro ends abruptly so that CELEB HUNTER can make it’s start. The vocals on CELEB HUNTER might sound a bit weird at first but as soon as you get used to them you’ll hear that they are creating a whole vibe of their own with them.

You can hear they have been influenced by bands such as KoЯn, Bizkit and Deftones, but also bands like Tool and Nine Inch Nails but ikd-sj manage to take all these influences and give them their own twist in their sound. Black Apartment is another one of those songs that really grab your attention on this album. Crazy vocals and a tight down tuned bass build themselves up strongly to the chorus to burst out in full energy with heavy guitars and drums and tight vocals.

Some of the other tracks that really grab your attention in between those 17 songs, which aren’t too short either, are the heavy FULLMETAL GUNSLINGER, Fruit Basket, Last/Exodus and Impotent Kids, a track with an awesome bass/drum sound as intro. The album sounds great until the end, where it wraps things up with the tracks Beautiful Slaughter and World’s End.

Ikd-sj definitely made me very enthusiastic about their sound and convince me that they are a band with a lot of potential. They are heavy from the first until the last track, even though the end is just a little bit softer. World’s End Fruit Basket consists of 17 powerful tracks and each of them have their own strength and will surprise you with an own mix of nu-metal, rock and metal, with crazy vocals, some rap and kick ass grunts.

Fans of previous mentioned bands, but also fans from bands like Dir en grey (not their visual kei sound though), and nu-metal fans must without a doubt give ikd-sj a chance and who knows, maybe you’ll end up as enthusiastic about them as me!
