Gloria Morti

Anthems of Annihilation
Cyclone Empire

Genre: Melodic Black/Death Metal

The third album of Gloria Morti is finally recorded, mixed and done! The album contains some of the older work of these guys. The album brings Gloria Murti to a whole new level with their aggressive and diverse soundscapes. It is more crushing and brutal than ever.

Anthems of Annihilation is a concept record about mankind, which makes an irrevocable decision in trying to solve all the bigger problems that this world knows. The storyline is mainly based on war between man and machine and the enslavement of an entire generation. The lyrical content gives an insight on current day issues and how humanity shows it’s own stupidity in these matters.

The prelude of the album is a battle march, which sets the tone for this album from the start. Aggression is the central message which is conveyed through mid- and up tempo riffing and rhythms. The kick drum pedals are being ripped to shreds by the insane speeds that the drummer achieves. The solution called war is one hell of a song. The speech that is played in the prelude is repeated throughout this song and in the bridge that same speech comes out clearer and that’s when hell breaks loose. While listening, you may notice that on this record the drummer is the red line that brings everything together. And the vocals may not be forgotten, cause it are the screams and death grunts that this man produces that you really start to think that he has a great set of vocal chords at his disposal.

Also the rhythms return regularly. The third track on this record titled “The awakening of a discordant machine” seems to start more melodically by its guitar riffs, but soon this melody is blown away once again by the insane aural destruction that follows. After 1,5 minutes however the melody returns once again. Personally I like it if a band adds some rhythm and/or melody to music like this, so this riff is a very nice little touch. Throughout the whole album you can hear references and quote’s to the speech “art of war”, especially in the song “Infiltration”. It is not very original, but it is executed the right way.

Musically this is a strong record with enough variation to stay interesting, this feeling is also enhanced by the spoken parts and the returning “art of war” speech. The song “Swallowed by Defeat” starts of more quiet with a clean guitar part. This song is one of the few songs that start of quietly and stay that way. It is more of a symphonic vibe and in this track you can hear that we are dealing with true professionals. If you can use such a quiet piece of music to bring this much emotion to the listener, you know that you are doing the right thing.

The concept comes out clearly on this record and it brings the right atmosphere along with it. This up-tempo album has been carefully crafted as expected. The usage of speech samples, sirens and battle noises add to the overall experience. I am looking forward to the next record and already I am wondering which concept that would become.
