Chris Caffery

House of insanity
AFM Records

Genre: Heavy Metal

Chris Caffery’s got a biography with many different elements in it. He started as an eleven years old boy learn to play the guitar. After 13 months these lessons bored him and he decided to learn playing the guitar by himself inspired by Ace Frehley and Michael Schenker.

Chris grew up with bands like Kiss, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Rush and soon he started his own band. After that several bands followed. The important line in this all is the band Savatage. He isn’t a real member of the band, but at the other side he is. He plays again with the brothers Olivia, but then again he doesn’t. In 2009 he will release, supported by divers musical friends, his new solocd House of Insanity.

The cd contains thirteen songs and lasts over one hour. The music is obliviously inspired by the music of the eighties. They are heavy and melodic. The ballads on the album are built up nicely. When you listen to his album you will notice that Chris Caffery is just more a guitarplayer than a vocalist.

He isn’t a extreme good singer but also doesn’t disturb me with his voice. In the first ten songs I can’t find a specific theme. But it seems to me that Winter in Hamburg is autobiographic. In No matter what and the cover Get up, Stand up Chris gives us a message. It doesn’t matter which decisions you make, don’t regret it because life is too short for that.

The cover of the Bob Marleysong is a real good heavy version and the message in this song is well-known. At the end I conclude that this cd is easy-listening to and isn’t boring at all. So when you like good old-fashioned melodic rock, this is a real good cd.
