Good, better, best. The five Norwegian guys of Aspera must have thought so. Why would other bands can record beautiful albums and we’re not. So they did. Aspera made a (debut) album with a rare quality of music. Each member’s got twenty years of experience. Life experience I mean. It’s truly amazing. Started with a band called Illusion they changed their name in Aspera and they wrote Ripples.
A CD with ten beautiful songs in a musical style between Dream Theatre and Symphony X. Each song is a jewel and every time when I listen to the songs they take me on a musical rollercoaster. After the intro the title song, with their harmony singing, gets me by the balls and there’s no turning back. I absolutely have to listen to the other great songs.
After the songs Do I Dare and Remorse you can listen to Between Black and White. A song like the others with a high musical level. Remarkable in this song is the battle between the keyboards and the guitar in the middle of the song. It’s got just so much power and tension. The rollercoaster gets on and I can’t get enough of it. It’s just a pity this song lasts no longer than eight (!) minutes. Catatonic Coma starts with a heavy groove but also turns into a song with several hooks in melody, rhythm and tempo.
Torn Apart is just the quiet side of the cd. When I have to write about Traces Inside and The Purpose I can’t get any words to describe the unbelievable chemistry they create in my brain. They already did some shows in Spain with Tarja Turunen but it’s time for Europe to know Aspera better. You got good music, you got better music and you got Aspera.
