This year no Wâldrock but Dokk’em Open Air

Even though the Wâldrock festival will not be held this year, there is a good reason for metal and rock lovers to visit Friesland. The biannual Dokk’em Open Air festival will be held on the 11 and 12 of June for the fifth time. Besides an already interesting line-up with, amongst others, ReVamp and Picture, the organization has managed to confirm Destruction, Nightmare and Diabulus In Musica. In total, there will be 18 national and international bands performing in Dokkum, divided over two days and two stages.

The German band Destruction belongs to the Big Three of thrash metal bands, together with Kreator and Sodom. The band was formed in 1982 as Knight of Demon and has produced 11 studio albums since. Nightmare has been formed as early as 1979 and was the first French metal band which was successful in Great Britain.

Nightmare has performed with artists like Saxon, Iron Maiden and Grave Digger. Diabulus In Musica is a young and talented new band from Spain. The band was formed in 2006 and during its short history the band managed to be finalist in some prestigious contests. Their first record “Secrets” is produced with the aid of Ad Sluijter (Epica). At the moment they are working on their second album, which will be released under Metal Blade Records.

The Dokk’em Open Air festival celebrates its first lustrum this year. Due to the increasing popularity and demand from campsite visitors, the organization has added the Friday evening to the program. Ticket sales will start from the beginning of March.
