Mega Record & CD Fair - Enormous offer of rock and metal

The weekend of 18 and 19 April ensured to it that I didn’t have to be bored. The record and CD Fair in Utrecht, The Netherlands was here again. I have never been there, so I didn’t had any idea what to expect. In good spirits I drove that afternoon of 19 April to the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, but around 14:00 hours I was quit done with the open broken roads and the obscurity where I had to go. But finally I found it. I saw the boards with “Verzamelbeurs” on it, without even thinking about it, that the records and cd’s could be found there as well. So I was searching, but finally I decided to ask it. I was right after all. I had to get some money from the bank and then I went inside.

On my way to the stands I walked alongside other stands with all kinds of stuff, like games, collector items of films and games and what so on. But I didn’t came for that. When I think about a bourse, I see a market in my mind. All kinds of stand, with the same products, but slightly different. Everywhere vinyl records, live dvd’s, but also films could be found.
What stroked me the most was the variation and the offer of vinyl records. It varied between pop, rock, metal, hiphop, dance, soul and r&b and there were probably more genres to discover on the bourse. But what came more clear to me was the enormous offer of rock and metal. Apperently this market is better suited for the metal heads, or people who have a weakness for music of the 80’s and before that time.

Singles, bootlegs and entire albums could be found there. So now and then there were some collectors items, like miniature figures of certain stars, but also pictures and posters. It is a great place to look for the missing records in the collection. It just asked for a deep pocket, because there is so much and there are so many special releases, that a visitor who wants to have it all, is out of money in no time.

The traders come from all countries. The Netherlands, Germany, England, Sweden, France and Hungary were some that I saw. That is quite apart. There were some records and cd’s that could be found of bands and artists who were not so known in foreign countries. The people who stand there, do it with passion and like to help people when there are questions about certain artists or certain vinyl records and cd’s. This bourse is also about getting and sharing knowledge, although I have to admit, I didn’t participate with that.

Another thing that stroked me were the different ages. There are a lot of young people around there, who are not only looking for cd’s but also for vinyl records. It is not just that the old men walk by to look for the missing records, but there is also a lot for a lot of young people who want to start a collection.

That this fair is more than just a few stands who stand together was proved by a small podium in the hall where a live band played. Nice music to dance on, or just to sit and drink something. A piece of entertainment. At the beginning of the hall there was a band who played acoustic and it didn’t sound bad. A little bit of live in the cold hall.

When my money was spend, I quite had seen it all. Without a certain goal I would be lost in the big mountains and valleys of vinyl records and cd’s. The stands would suffocate me and I would slowly get the idea I could not escape. This asks for a goal, wanting a certain album. It was a very nice afternoon where I saw a lot. A must be there for every music lover. Besides the rare collector albums there are enough CD’s and vinyl records who are sold with nice discount. A nice start of a collection and off course a great afternoon away with family or friends.
