AC/DC live in New Jersey

AC/DC embarked on a world wide concert tour this October that takes them from the US to Canada, Europe, the UK, Japan, Australia and back to the US again for the second leg of their tour in 2009.

This is their first tour in seven years (not including the mini tour in 2003) supporting their latest CD, Black Ice, a solid hard driving rock CD with melody and balls. It’s everything you should expect from an AC/DC CD with a modern sound. It’s not the quintessential AC/DC CD but it comes very, very close.

The band literally exploded on the stage with Rock And Roll Train following a short animated segment of Angus and two scantly clad women driving a train into the side of the venue. As the animated train hits the venue wall, a massive locomotive poring smoke and fire breaks through the video screen kicking off the set!

The key focus of course throughout the night was on Brian Johnson and Angus Young. Brian wearing his ‘Irish fighting cap’ and Angus decked out in his school boy uniform (blue hat, knickers, blazer and tie) delivered a high energy show second to none. As always drummer Phil Rudd, bassist Cliff Williams and guitarist Malcolm Young all remain in the background only moving to the microphone on choruses but provide the solid beat behind the band.

Angus lives up to his school boy image and legacy, by going postal during Let There Be Rock as he spins around on his back while on a lift at the end of the cat walk and performs a striptease, exposing AC/DC boxers during The Jack. Performing songs such as Highway to Hell, Hells Bells, You Shook Me All Night Long and 5 or 6 new songs of the CD, AC/DC delivered a fun-filled, head shaking, and banging evening to this mostly male audience.

Though the focus may have been on Angus and Brian, let’s not forget the real focus….the songs with their fantastic riffs and hooks, played superbly. The set list is well chosen, spanning 3 decades delivering the real highlights of the show. Let’s hope that it isn’t another 7 years for a CD and tour!
