Jason Newsted of Metallica fame debuted an exhibition of his paintings at Micaela Gallery in San Francisco, California, on May 4, 2010. Jason held a private opening, attended by many including his old band mate Lars Ulrich. On May 6th, Jason held a public opening, which included locals such as Eric Kretz of Stone Temple Pilots. Newsted himself was present and very accessible - explaining his art and how he created what he did. Jason said his pieces took his whole life to make, with the end physical result perhaps taking a few weeks.

Newsted had a video made for the event, which was playing continually in a small room within the gallery. The screen was on a stack of amplifiers, and featured very intense imagery and music- including the heavy beat of Voivod- one of Jason's endeavors. And besides the killer pieces, Jason had guitar picks, posters, and art books celebrating his work.

If in San Francisco over the next month check out Jason Newsted's artwork- it is a very impressive side of this rocker many have not likely seen.
