Bitchie: “So far we haven´t kicked any of the band. One member got pregnant, one of them we cut her head off and one have to choose if she would live or die.”
Was it hard to find the right bandmembers?“Yes, you can´t find these kind of maniacs. They choose you.”
So, we can conclude that this is the ultimate Hysterica line-up?“Yes, we ARE the band. We are all going to make a tattoo on our body that says: "HYSTERICA Female metal brutality" in a short future.”
We can all see that there are some age differences within the band. Of course this isn’t that important, but it can cause problems, due to experience and stuff, but you don’t seem to have a problem with that. Can or may I say, that ages in Hysterica are just numbers and not important?
“Ohhh, did you notice that? Our age is 32.8 and I have to say it has decreasing during the last members. Hahaha. If you are working with these girls that are intelligent, funny, evil and love metal...what more can you ask for? Ages have nothing about to do with this.”
I read some time ago that Hysterica isn’t just a heavy metal band, but Hysterica is a diagnosis. What do you mean by that?“You have to be picked from the mental hospital to fit in the band.”
It seems to many people that the metal world is dominated by men, although there are a lot of female metal bands. Many simple minded men only watch at one thing, we know that for a fact. Is it important for you to be accepted in the metal world?“That’s a good question. I think it´s only depends on the music. You can do whatever you want as long as the music has the quality.”
Talking about dominating, you seem to like dominating men, which I can refer to the song Heavy Metal Man and a picture I saw with you and a chained guy. What is the secret or weapon of Hysterica to mislead the men and get them into your hands?
“We have discovered that they want to be dominated by metal ladies.”
You released your album in January at a release party. The album was well received by the audience as I heard. So it would be interesting to talk a little about the album. The process of song writing how did that go?“I wrote a lot of songs and ideas before the band existed. Some of them we have used and as the girls are very created by themselves. We have come up with really great way to work our songs out. RockZilla has written a lot of tunes and as you can see on our album our former singer Liv is a great songwriter. We are now developing the second album and the new members are now into it, as well.”
Were there songs that were left out and didn’t make the album?“Of course. We choose the ones that maybe can do some use in this world. The other ones we have through away. We create new songs all the time. We could have made…let me think….. About 11 albums to this day….”
When we look at the songs, there is one particular song that took my attention, namely the song Metalwar. The song Metalwar reminds me a lot of Manowar. Is it safe to say that Manowar is a big influence for Hysterica?“Some of the members hadn’t even listened to Manowar before we made this album. Manowar is no influences at all. We just think is funny to be compared with these guys that are taken themselves so seriously. (Or are they??) When our album was recorded and we decided that we were going to name the album “Metalwar” we understood that it would be reactions from “Manowar” listeners.”
I read that it was a dream for you all, that the cd would be produced by Peter Tägtgren, a Swedish metal legend (let’s be honest here). How did you manage to get a grip of Peter?“It was our manager that makes Peter listens to our demo. He really liked it and then we called him when we wanted to do the recording. It was really lucky for us that he had the time to help us. I am going to call Peter and ask him if he want to do a mix on our second album.”
In what way did you work with him, because I also read that the brother of Peter was involved?“His brother Tommy has the B-studio and we recorded there, Peter made all mixing of the album.”
To promote a new album, bands go on tour and I know off course you tour as well. The Netherlands was the first country outside of Sweden that Hysterica visited to rock the stages. The goal of the band was to play at Sweden Rock Festival and now they have done that.“Any country that loves metal. We are not tourist when we come to a country. We are seriously rock stars and we are depending on the audience.”
What is the best thing about touring?“It’s just hours to the next gig.”
Here I will have the last question, but this will be the most important. Is there anything you would like to say or share with your fans?“We are depending on you. We want to give it all from stage and through our album we hope we can give you a clue what we are into. Thanks for reading the interview and thanks for all of your support.”
