Cory: You would be surprised, it just kind of happened. Marc, Leonard and I were just screwing around playing music, a real garage band, with what we thought were awesome song. Looking back, they’re not so great sounding now. Justin later joined the band; he grew up with Leonard in Northern Texas, now we are making cool music. Shortly after, we played a show and then things really blew up. The show was taped and sent out everywhere, the next thing we know we signing a recording contract and looking to get out and play live gigs. It was a hurricane of events and now it’s just an awesome ride.
Does anyone else on the Cowboys want to join your band? Some guys have expressed an interest, we will see if anything comes of it and if they commit to it.
What’s some of the bands musical influences?Marc is a big time Metallica fan. As for the band as a whole, we like Killswitch, Lamb of God, and Bullets for my Valentine, bands that have heavy tones, double kicks, and great melodies.
With national distribution of your CD, Tragedy, why only do five songs?
It came down to free time. With our football career, time is of the essence. The CD was recorded in July right before training camp and it was coming down to the wire. Two of the songs on the CD we wanted to tweak a little more but ran out of time.
What do your teammates think of your band and the CD?We don’t have a whole lot of metal fans on the team, but those who heard it, like it. We released it the week after the season ended so we didn’t get everybody a copy. When we get back in training camp we will make sure everybody gets one.
We had our 1st real gig at the House of Blues in Las Vegas on February 20th playing with Steel Panther. We will start to add some off weekend shows and when try to get in the studio and piece it together a new CD.
Will you be doing any cover songs at your live shows? No it’s all us. We have more than the 5 songs on the CD that we plan to play out.
Any plans to play the half time show and the next year’s Superbowl? That would be sweet, but if we’re playing, don’t count on it.
